Day to day responsibilities vary on the project that you are assigned to, but I will give an example of the last project that I was on which was in the manufacturing space for a poultry factory. General day would begin with grabbing coffee with the team before heading to site. After we arrive at site we would have a 15-30 min check in and refresh to see where everyone is at with their responsibilities and if they required any support throughout the day. After that I would probably go onto the shopfloor to conduct a line study or just take observations for a specific trial that the team have scheduled, or just purely to touch base with a few of the key stakeholders on the shopfloor. Throughout my day I would also spend some time attending various meetings, such as supply reviews / demand review and take minutes when necessary. A large part of the role is also analysis and crafting your insights into recomendations for the client, so I would say a significant portion of my day is spent sourcing or creating data to support the various workstreams we have across the project. This may be through excel analysis, interviews, studies and or general stakeholder management.

The days are extremely varied depending on the project, so for people who like trying new things it's a great opportunity. Days can range from hands on, testing out solutions in a manufacturing facility, to intensive data analysis. I've really appreciated the level of responsibility and ownership I've been given as a graduate.

Pros and cons of working at Argon & Co

Pros

  • The team within Argon & Co are very supportive, the work we do is interesting and there are always opportunities to try new things.

  • A great culture that is fun, innovative and trusting. Everyone is willing to lend a hand and have a chat which is lovely.

  • Lots of opportunities to get exposed to different industries, and different parts of the supply chain. My colleagues are always willing to help and share their knowledge.

  • Flexibility and freedom to explore.

  • Argon’s reputation as a top consulting firm in supply chain means we have access to highly experienced professionals, and the willingness from everyone to mentor and teach is invaluable.

Cons

    • It is always hard starting at a new workplace as a graduate, with so many things to learn and the need to adapt to full time work and workplace expectations.

    • It is difficult to get to know everyone because of having to work on site.

    • Purely due to the industries we work with, there can be late nights and somewhat unpleasant sites/clients.

    • There is a lack of tailored training materials specifically designed for graduates. You need to take the initiative to build your own learning path and seek out opportunities.

    • Takes time at the beginning to adapt into different projects and rotations.
