What is a Legal Operations Graduate?

We are calling all Graduates who think differently, and are looking to shape the future of law. An exciting opportunity has arisen within our Client Solutions team to utilise your knowledge from your law degree to lead change and disruption.

We are looking for a Smarter Law champion to join our Client Solutions team in either Sydney or Melbourne as our first Legal Operations Graduate on a 12 month program . Joining our Client Solutions team you will be exposed to legal project management, process analysis, artificial intelligence and emerging technologies. You will work under the guidance of the Client Solutions team where you will drive innovation and effective outcomes for the firm and our clients.

As a legal operations graduate you will

  • Be at the forefront of legal operations and assist in shaping the firms' direction on this journey.
  • Work with a variety of practice groups to deliver innovative and effective solutions that will transform our work practices.
  • Engage with industry influencers.
  • Undertake analysis of legal processes and identify opportunities of improvement.
  • Undertake legal and business industry research and analyse emerging technologies in the legal market.
  • Become a trusted business partner that translates requirements to outcomes.
  • Build your nation-wide network and personal brand at the firm.

Over the 12 months you will build a skillset with the below concepts

  • Innovating with heart (user centric focus)
  • Project management
  • Comms and change management
  • Process mapping
  • Decision tree development and implementation
  • Prototyping/wireframes
  • Spec and requirement documents
  • Assessing technology platforms and how they apply to legal services
  • Continuous improvement principles

Pros

  • The firm has wonderful mentors who care for the professional growth and personal well-being of team members. Everyone's contributions are highly valued.

  • Super structured, comprehensive and continuous.

  • I never have to work overtime – the firm is committed to preserving work/life balance.

  • Even as a graduate, I can work from home. I generally spend 1-2 days at home, which is the norm for most employees (obviously some more, some less, I just prefer to be in office).

  • The workplace culture is very inclusive, and I really feel like part of a team.

Cons

    • The salary could be higher in comparison to other graduate cohorts.

    • The very occasional disconnect between partners and lawyers about workflows and opportunities for work.

    • Some teams are better than others at training and getting grads involved.

    • The entire office hotdesks (there are no private offices) and sometimes getting a seat in the office can be tricky.

    • From a graduate perspective, progression in the firm is not yet clear.
