TasNetworks came into being on July 1, 2014, following the merger of Aurora Energy’s distribution network (i.e. poles and wires) and Transend Networks (i.e. big towers and lines). The state-owned corporation is responsible for supplying power to a quarter of a million Tasmanian homes and businesses. TasNetworks also owns and operates telecommunication infrastructure to “enable safe and efficient operation of the electricity system”.

In the program, you’ll be offered unique opportunities to learn and excel in your career, engage with exceptional team members, build a network of colleagues (and friends!) and work with industry leaders across the state. It's a challenging and rewarding learning experience that attracts quality grads from across Tasmania, Australia and the world. The Graduate Program is a 3-year program commencing in early February each year. If you're achievement-oriented, enthusiastic about your development and committed, then their Graduate Program could be for you.
TasNetworks is one of Australia’s Top Graduate Employers for 2020. Over 2500 grads were surveyed by the Australian Association of Graduate Employers to create the list. An independent survey by GradAustralia shows their grads have an average overall satisfaction rating of 4.3, which is higher than company-wide ratings recorded on Seek (2.5) and Indeed (4.0).
The Graduate program offering:
As part of the Graduate Program, TasNetworks Graduates engage with the community through the delivery of the STEAM Program. STEAM aims to encourage interest in the STEM disciplines and create opportunities and pathways for young Tasmanians. The program also provides graduates with the opportunity to engage with the local community, while further developing their leadership and communication skills.
Through the program, graduates deliver science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics-related design challenges to young Tasmanians through ongoing local school partnerships, community partnerships and public events. Some notable events that STEAM is involved in annually include AgFest, Kid I Am, and the Festival of Bright Ideas.
Each year, the graduate group aim to grow the program and community awareness of STEAM careers by furthering the program’s reach and developing innovative new activities. In 2020, the STEAM group is launching their Powerful Connections Mentoring Program to support and provide opportunities for College and University students interested in and studying STEM disciplines.

TasNetworks is a small corporation and once people get a job there they tend to hang around. While you’ll enjoy good job security, be aware you could be waiting for a long time for positions to open up. Of course, there is always the option of getting the necessary training and experience at TasNetworks and then heading for the mainland in search of an employer offering swifter career progression.
TasNetworks is committed to recruiting those from “many parts of our community”. The corporation is at pains not to discriminate on the basis of gender, cultural or religious background, disability, age, sexual orientation or family responsibilities. It seeks to integrate diversity into its “training, policies and procedures” and “promote diversity in every part of our business”.
Disciplines vary each year depending on what the business requires, however candidates with the following degrees are encouraged to apply:
If your degree isn’t on this list and you think it's relevant, apply anyway! Being on a VISA doesn’t stop you from applying for the Graduate Program! However, they do require either permanent residency or a length of stay that goes beyond the end of the grad program (3 years past next February).

The learning opportunities.
Autonomy and freedom.
The only negative would be the fact that the company is going through change currently after a recent merger. A lot of computer systems are changing as well as some of the processes, leaving a few people 'unhappy' which is slowing down workflow.
Restrictive in opportunities, very slow for work to progress.
Poor work ethic amongst a few employees.
The red tape and inability to effect change.
