What team do you work in and what are they responsible for?

I work in the CRM – Customer Relationship Management team that sits within Consumer Marketing at Viva Energy Australia. We are responsible for engaging with our retail customers through eDMs, newsletters, social media, competitions, promotions and campaign activities. We also capture and analyse data to improve our customer experience, and manage our continually growing customer database. All our work is centred around our customers. As a Shell Licensee, the team is responsible for Shell-branded consumer marketing including advertising, partnerships, digital and customer engagement. Our exciting marketing activities reach everyday motorists across Shell service stations all around Australia.

What tips can you share with prospective graduates going through the application or recruitment process with us?

Be yourself and have fun! It’s ok to be nervous, but use that to your advantage. Showcase what makes you unique and why you would be a good fit for the team. Reflect on your past experiences, whether that is prior industry experience, university, casual/part-time work or extra-curricular activities, and be prepared to give some examples of what you have worked on previously. Do some research on Viva Energy, especially around the role you are applying for, but don’t worry you’re not expected to know everything! Even though you are being interviewed, don’t hesitate to ask questions and be curious. You have more to gain than you have to lose! So try your best and give it your all!

What have been some highlights of the Graduate Program?

Some highlights of the Viva Energy Graduate Program include the amount of support provided within the graduate program and in my team. Everybody is so kind and welcoming which makes every day enjoyable and energising. The graduate program has a strong focus on our development, and everybody across the business really wants to see us succeed. It’s rewarding to be a part of a business that values its graduates and supports our growth. There are so many learning opportunities and great people to meet at Viva Energy, which has been one of the biggest highlights.

More specifically, as a marketing graduate there have been countless highlights including working on fun campaigns such as the Shell Motorsport Model Cars Collection, understanding the market and customers through research and analytics, engaging with customers through social and newsletter activities, developing our local area marketing communications, working with exciting partners such as the AFL and G’day Parks and seeing real results through database growth and customer engagement.
